 ‘Filléres’ (fruit) – applicable from 13-02-1940 until 28-02-1943 – half the normal rate

‘Staff’ or ‘Permit’ parcels are, mainly, for foodstuffs, sent often to former postal employees. They usually have a permit cachet in green ink on the back with an authorising signature. The rates seem to have remained the same throughout this period at 10 f for up to 10 kg, 20 f for 10-20 kg.

* Single card/COD card;

** revenue stamps had to be applied in addition to the 10 fillér imprint; from 16-01-1946 the existing imprint had to be crossed out or covered by a revenue stamp.

Notes:

1.             Some data in the above table are based on known data for one period multiplied by inflationary factors incurred to subsequent periods. Periods 9 to 13 are based on definitive information for period 8, periods 15 to 24 are based on period 14, and periods 26 and 27 are based on period 25.

2.             Parcels of weight greater than 20 kg, up to 55 kg could be sent only with special permission, e.g. official parcels, and this service was not offered to individuals or businesses.

3.             The COD parcel service outside of Budapest restarted on 01-12-1945.

4.             It is believed that foodstuffs (filléres) were transported at half the above rates.

5.             ‘Staff’ or ‘Permit’ parcels could be sent at a special reduced rate to former postal employees. A permit cachet on the reverse of the card had to be filled in and authorised. Rates are unclear, but the above source shows an example from Period 2 where the rate charged was 1 p for 10 kg instead of the normal 10 p (Zones I, II).

6.             The above reference contains numerous additional charges that could be made, including surcharges for parcels not pre-paid, return receipt, repacking, storage beyond ‘reasonable collection time’, home delivery, and their applicability and cost changed over the inflationary period as services developed. Data are incomplete, but could perhaps be derived using the inflationary factor method.

Foreign parcels were permitted from the following dates:

08-10-1945       Czechoslovakia

15-04-1946       Sweden

14-06-1946       Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, France, Great Britain and colonies, India, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, USA, Yugoslavia (and probably Albania, Chile, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg)
